The One Basin CRC Leadership Program is only as strong as the people who guide it. Our mentors are practitioners, researchers, and leaders who have spent careers shaping the Basin through policy, science, industries, and communities.
Each mentor is carefully matched to their mentee based on field, goals, and professional context. They bring not just expertise, but a genuine commitment to developing the next generation of Basin leaders. They have navigated the challenges our emerging leaders are beginning to face, and they are here to share what they have learned.

Meet our mentors
Angela Arthington
Professor, Griffith UniversityProfessor Emeritus Angela Arthington has vast experience in environmental water science, and has produced pioneering research into environmental water flows and other topics over a five-decade career at Griffith University. She was a leading force behind the 2018 Brisbane Declaration, which clearly states to the world the importance of the integrity of freshwater systems to people, and she continues her work on river ecology and environmental flows.
What drew you to take part as a mentor in the One Basin CRC Leadership Development Program?
I want to contribute to One Basin CRC, and an invitation from Mike Stewardson spurred me to take this opportunity to engage in a meaningful way as best I can as a Mentor.
What does leadership mean to you?
Leadership means offering the most useful information and advice I can to support, assist and guide applications of freshwater science to biodiversity and ecosystem recovery and conservation.
What’s one piece of advice you often share with emerging leaders in your field?
Reach beyond your current role, take up new opportunities, be confident that new challenges will become easy, then reach again, keep moving onward and upward.
What do you hope to see from the next generation of Basin leaders?
A brilliant team of scientists / managers who are equipped with the latest science and technical / people skills and ready to ‘go ahead of the flow’ as each new development, threat or climate catastrophe brings up new challenges to river basin management. I hope the next generation of Basin leaders will be well versed in the concepts and practice of social-ecological systems thinking, and that Australians will continue to push the boundaries of weaving Indigenous and stakeholder knowledge into the science, management and sharing of river basin resources.
Paul Frazier
Director, 2rog ConsultingDr Paul Frazier is an expert environmental scientist and a Director at 2rog Consulting. Paul has over 30 years expertise in river science, remote sensing, and stakeholder engagement. Paul exhibits strengths in principled leadership and evidence-based solutions, driving impact for clients across government, academia, and consulting to improve land and water management outcomes.
