The Murray–Darling Basin’s future depends on bold, connected, and capable leaders. The One Basin CRC Leadership Development Program is a free, 12-month program designed to fast-track emerging leaders from across the Basin’s industries, communities, and research sectors.
A program built for the Basin
Delivered by the One Basin Cooperative Research Centre (CRC) — an industry-led partnership uniting researchers, government, industry, and communities — the program reflects our deep commitment to building human capital across the Basin. Every element is shaped by local priorities and guided by our bespoke Leadership Development Compass.
What to expect
The program kicks off with an in-person retreat, held 17–18 August in Renmark, SA, a dedicated two days to connect with your cohort and the mentor group from the outset. Travel and accommodation costs for the retreat are covered by the CRC.
From there, the program is designed to be flexible and fit around your existing professional commitments. You’ll be matched with an expert mentor relevant to your field, whether that’s research, policy, agriculture, NRM, water management, engineering, economics, community leadership, or any of the other fields shaping the Basin. You’ll engage with your peers and colleagues to complete a 360-degree leadership assessment and use those insights to develop a personalised leadership plan that identifies your strengths and growth opportunities.
Alongside your mentoring relationship, you’ll connect with your cohort of emerging leaders from across the Basin through quarterly learning sessions, and have access to curated leadership resources.

Our mentors bring deep leadership expertise across academia, industry, and other Basin-focused sectors, with experience spanning research, policy, NRM, communications, irrigation, agriculture, economics, engineering, and more.
