The Johari Window is a simple but powerful tool to help leaders build self-awareness and stronger relationships. It’s made up of four quadrants that represent different aspects of who we are: what we and others know about us (the open area), what we know but others don’t (hidden), what others see but we don’t (blind spots), and what nobody knows yet (unknown). As leaders, expanding the “open” area through honest self-reflection and inviting feedback, helps us show up more authentically and lead with confidence and clarity.
For emerging leaders, the Johari Window is especially useful in developing trust and communication. The more you share with others (appropriately!) and the more you’re open to learning about yourself, the better your relationships and decision-making become. Leadership isn’t about having all the answers, it’s about being willing to grow, learn, and invite others into that journey with you.
