Method: Above the Line // Below the Line

The Above the Line / Below the Line model is a simple tool that helps leaders become more aware of their mindset and behaviour in any given moment. When you’re operating above the line, you’re open, curious, and committed to learning. When you’re below the line, you’re closed, defensive, and more focused on being right than growing. Neither is “bad” – the key is recognising where you are and having the self-awareness to shift if needed.

For emerging leaders, this model is incredibly useful because leadership isn’t just about what you do, but how you show up. Teams are always reading your energy and reactions, especially in challenging situations. Knowing whether you’re above or below the line helps you respond with intention, build trust, and model the kind of reflective, resilient leadership that brings out the best in others.
