Technology and Opportunity
The Technology & Opportunity program will grow and diversify water sources and optimise the treatment, storage, delivery and use of water by developing on and off farm digital infrastructure.
Program Purpose
Utilising new technology and improved infrastructure, we will build resilience and help rural communities adapt to global change. We will help advance:
- Water source diversification
- Water delivery system improvements
- Irrigation efficiencies.
This program will ensure we are adopting technologies that deliver more value from water for the Murray-Darling Basin – with a goal of zero net emissions.
Research Outcomes
- Enhanced adoption of fit-for-purpose digital on-farm irrigation technologies.
- Solutions to support farmers and communities transition to carbon neutral agriculture
- Demonstration of water technologies to increase diversity of water supplies for different types of end-uses.
- Improved understanding of opportunities to access alternative water sources and waters saving technologies to enhance resilience to a variable and changing climate
- Improved information systems and processes to support water delivery operators enhance environmental, social, cultural and productive benefits of water.
Partnerships
Key to the program’s success will be partnership with key stakeholders, including:
- Water utilities
- Ag tech
- Finance
- Corporate farms
- Local government
- Government water and infrastructure agencies.
