Adaptation and Innovation
The Adaptation and Innovation program develops and delivers products, practices and strategies that increase the stocks of human, economic, social, cultural and natural capital in the Basin. This will support adaptations and transitions in agricultural, environmental, social and cultural systems.
Program Purpose
To build leadership in research, business, community and government, and support our regional communities to innovate and grow in the face of significant change. We will help build:
- Resilient and profitable businesses
- Thriving communities
- Collaborative and efficient management of basin resources.
This program will ensure we are supporting robust ecosystems, economies, cultures and relationships in the Murray-Darling Basin.
Program Outcomes
- Sustainable farm systems and water management models under climatic change and variability;
- Managing riparian landscapes to maximise both production and environmental benefits;
- Adaptation, investment and well-being in Basin communities:
- First Nations aspirations and contributions to Basin science and decision-making;
- New forms of engagement and collaboration for Basin governance; and
- Enhancing the effectiveness of knowledge systems that will support adaptations and transitions.
Partnerships
Key to the program’s success will be partnership with key stakeholders, including:
- Rural RDC’s
- Regional development agencies
- Local, State and Commonwealth government
- Small and large farms and agri-business supply chain
