Our approach
Our commitment to industry-led research and projects will meaningfully contribute to our vision of a productive, resilient and sustainable Murray–Darling Basin.
An industry-led approach
We have purposefully designed our research programs in response to the key challenges identified by our industry partners: a diverse and meaningful representation of agricultural, water, environmental and community needs.
Meaningful research also requires active design and input from our researchers. A great strength of the CRC is our cohort of research partners, who bring their training, experience and expertise to bear on the complex challenges the basin is facing.

Region-focused
Our activities are concentrated across four major regional hubs located at Loxton (SA), Mildura (VIC), Griffith (NSW) and Goondiwindi (QLD). This approach ensures research is fit-for-purpose and relevant to each region, driving greater uptake and adoption – essential for growth in both productivity and sustainability, as well as the economic, social and environmental benefits also expected within hub regions as a result of the CRC’s work.
First Nations
We are committed to working with First Nations people based on the following principles:
- Relationships
- Respect
- Opportunities

Education and training
Education and training is critical to achieving our vision, and our programs have been established around three key activities:
- Industry linked research and training (including PhDs and summer schools)
- Digital One Basin School
- Regional hub programs.
We are training current and future leaders, managers and workers to ensure they will be highly effective in managing risks and identifying opportunities for the basin’s future.
