REGIONAL HUBS

A Place-Based Research Agenda

The Regional Hubs are an integral part of the One Basin CRC (Cooperative Research Centre) and central to the realisation of the CRC benefits. The One Basin CRC is proposing four regional hubs that are strategically located across the Basin and will be focal points for placed-based research and development, and associated demonstration, evaluation, adaptation and education and training activities. They will provide an efficiency of scale, supporting a concentration of facilities, partnerships and research effort to maximise progress and build on existing research capabilities in the regions. The Hubs will also provide a meeting place for each of the One Basin CRC’s Regional Advisory Committees and a place for regional communities, businesses and industries to participate and connect with the CRC’s activities.

Agriculture

By including much of the Basin’s agricultural footprint in the One Basin CRC, it will be possible to consider ongoing risks at a regional scale within a broader whole-of-basin analysis including cross-region interactions.

It is through the Regional Hubs that industry, business and farming communities will learn how to apply program outputs to self-manage, prepare and adapt their farms, products and services against drought, changing climatic and market conditions.

Natural Resource Management

Similarly, the Regional Hubs will be pathways into the natural resource management landscape and will be enables for collaboration with Government, agencies and natural resource management stakeholders.

 Regional Focus

The Regional Hubs will:

  • Enable co-innovation, between stakeholders, researchers, service providers and program designers for the development of more robust drought, climate and market preparedness and resilience programs at farm, community and catchment levels that are valued by industries and communities.

  • Explain and support access to preparedness programs.

  • Coordinate, link and where needed, strategically supplement extension services to support farm level adaptation in farming systems, business management practices and risk management.

  • Translate science and policy for end users.
