This project investigates the knowledge, skills and environments which can promote leadership from anywhere in the Murray-Darling Basin and will develop tangible resources to support leaders through change.

Water futures aims to bring together community, industry and researchers to support action on water security and adaptation in four sites across the Murray–Darling Basin. It will support ‘bottom up’ adaptation initiatives designed in local communities, by local communities.

This project aims to improve climate adaptation strategies by mapping the networks of programs and stakeholders in the Murray–Darling Basin, revolutionising knowledge sharing and decision-making, and ultimately enhancing the region’s resilience and sustainability.

This project is the first step in a nine-year program aimed at transforming climate risk assessments from ‘science-centric’ to ‘people-centric’ approaches. By involving stakeholders directly, the project aims to empower communities to act.
