One Basin Native Fish Forum workshop

news Published 08 Jun 2024

The One Basin CRC was delighted to host a workshop entitled ‘Harnessing the partnerships of the One Basin CRC to advance native fish recovery in The Basin’ as part of this week’s Native Fish Forum in Canberra, with the support of the Murray–Darling Basin Authority and OzFish, among other partners.

The interactive session explored options for collaborative research leveraging existing programs to maximise the CRC’s potential in supporting the recovery of native fish, in line with the CRC’s overall aim of combatting climate, water and environmental threats in the Murray–Darling Basin.

Dr Joseph Guillaume, One Basin Foresight and Decisions program leader, said that the workshop ‘was a great opportunity for the CRC to access a broad audience of interested stakeholders, ensuring that the projects we are developing are well integrated with other efforts across the basin.’

‘We were delighted with the enthusiasm and input from participants at the Native Fish Forum’.

The workshop was the first in a series forming part of the CRC’s co-design process for a program of work on fisheries science, which it itself part of a broader theme on healthy waterways within the CRC

Supported by a core co-design team, the University of Sydney’s Professor Joy Becker is leading the co-design process on behalf of the CRC, with the output being one or more project scopes that will be suitable as a starting point for CRC partners to develop a project agreement, scheduled for 2025, to better align both with available funding and allow project ideas to fully develop.
