Leigh Vial

Leigh has long experience in agricultural research and research management both in Australia and internationally, including serving in the CGIAR system. He has long recent experience both as an irrigated primary producer, and in large-scale on-farm revegetation and wetlands rehabilitation. He has recent board experience on an ASX-listed company, and has served on bodies overseeing agricultural industry and community-based research, productivity and NRM initiatives. He brings a strong understanding of contemporary irrigated agriculture in the southern Murray-Darling Basin, the pressure for change from water reform and catchment conditions, and consequent research needs.

Leigh currently leads an Australian government agricultural research-for-development project in Timor-Leste, is a project researcher in a similar project in Lao PDR and Cambodia.

Leigh is currently a non-executive director of Field Applied Research Australia Ltd. He has a Master in Economics, a PhD in agronomy and is a graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.
