Katie has over 20 years’ experience in technical viticulture gained across working in industry, research, extension and adoption.

She has a Bachelor of Applied Science (Viticulture) with Honours from Charles Sturt University and a PhD from the University of Tasmania. Both projects were focused on diseases in grapevines.

Prior to joining the One Basin CRC, she was a Development Officer – Viticulture for the NSW DPI based in Griffith. During this time, she helped to foster cross group collaboration with a focus to deliver information to industry.

Recently, she was responsible for running a Wine Australia Regional Program funded project investigating water usage in relation to crop loads and resting vineyard strategies. This project also provided the opportunity to collaborate with industry colleagues at SARDI.

Her diverse roles have enabled her to collaborate with many colleagues both nationally and internationally as well as provide insights to key industry issues when requested.

In partnership with the Riverina Winemakers association, she helped to facilitate the region be a part of Wine Australia’s Next Crop program that focuses on developing the industry’s future leaders at a local level in 2023. The program was open to all members of the supply chain of the industry based in the region.

She has been a General Director for the Australian Society for Viticulture and Oenology elected since 2021. Currently she is the chair of the Journal Advisory Committee for the society. She is also the Deputy Chair for the local SOS Riverina Valleys Group (Stop Off target Spraying) that runs out of Griffith.

Katie is looking forward to fostering collaboration between researchers and the community to deliver outcomes that are mutually beneficial to help support a vibrant basin.
